Course Description

  • INTS 161BEGINNING MANDARIN CHINESE I:This course is designed to give students a foundation for the mandarin Chinese language and develop their basic oral and written skills through the study of phonetics, vocabulary, syntax, grammar, and culture.
  • INTS 162 BEGINNING MANDARIN CHINESE II:This course is designed to continue the comprehensive introduction to the basics of Mandarin in INTS 161. INTS 162 will focus on perfecting phonic skills, improving conversation competence (speaking and listening skills), as well as learning more Chinese characters for reading and writing.The students will develop their basic oral and written skills through the study of more phonetics, vocabulary, syntax, grammar, and culture.
  • INTS 261 INTERMEDIATEMANDARIN CHINESE I: This intermediate course is a continuation of INTS162. It will continue to improve and strengthen students’ four skills, listening, speaking, reading and writing, acquired in INTS161 or 162. Lecture and class activities will focus on improving students’ abilities to speak and understand oral Mandarin as well as to read and write in Chinese.
  • INTS 261 INTERMEDIATEMANDARIN CHINESE I: This intermediate course is a continuation of INTS261. Students will continue to build proficiency in all 4 basic skills of the language, and are expected to be, by this level, knowledgeable and competent enough to work independently in acquiring new vocabulary and Chinese characters. Shot essay writing will be included. A couple of tang’s poems and Song’s verses will be introduced.
